Import Party

Preparing some imports from Publication Studio Vancouver which will be available at Luminous Books in London next month. When Sylvia Beech first published James Joyce’s Ulysees in 1922, copies were smuggled into USA from Paris one at a time in the coat pockets of travellers. These books aren’t banned but its always good to carry a book by pocket/suitcase across the seas…Titles include a great publication by Michael Turner ‘Free Concert’ which narrates all the words spoken in between songs during the Rolling Stones’ set at Altamont Speedway in 1969:

Plus some new stock for the shelves of Luminous harvested from Vancouver’s used bookstores:

A sunny day at Publication Studio Vancouver spent binding copies of ‘Path’, a 12 volume artist’s book which launches at Unit/Pitt Gallery this Friday 11th May.

Project Space is a bookshop, publisher, programming space and studio based in Vancouver.
Project Space:
As the possibilities inherent to digital space become increasingly infinite, the roles of physical and print spaces are being redefined. Project Space examines, challenges and supports this redefinition process through the production and circulation of publications, exhibitions, workshops, lectures and readings. Situated at an intersection of disciplines—namely the visual arts, literary arts and/or critical design—publication presents a unique space of inquiry that is often complemented by interdisciplinary practice, collaboration or co-production. Our projects reflect this context, engaging emerging and established local, national and international artists, curators, writers, editors, graphic designers and publishers in critical, conceptual and/or interdisciplinary practices.
