The Prelinger Library

301 8th Street, Room 215, San Francisco, CA

Open Wednesdays 1- 8pm

Co-founded by Rick and Megan Prelinger, the collection is an independent research library. Each part of the collection has roots in the personal research projects of the founders who are there during opening hours to offer friendly guidance and insights into the material. Many of the resources are image-rich and in the public domain and the Prelingers encourage sharing and reuse of materials therefore the library is often used by artists, writers and researchers who then contribute work back to the library collection. Nurturing underrepresented histories and narratives through books not commonly found in other libraries the Prelingers have ” tried to assemble a collection that paints a picture of American history and culture through ephemera, periodicals, and books that were often not part of the cultural mainstream. “

Reprint of Francis Godwin’s ‘The Strange Voyage and Adventures of Domingo Gonsales, to the World in the Moon…With a description of the Pike of Teneriff, as travelled up by some English merchants’ (1768) crafted today at Publication Studio Vancouver.

Godwin’s ‘Man in The Moone’ is Considered to be one of the first works of Science Fiction and one of the earliest recorded descriptions of weightlessness as Domingo Gonsales ascends to the world in the moon by several large geese or Ganza’s.
